The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has urged collective efforts to locate Yahaya Farouk, a corps member who went missing in Ikuru Town, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
During a visit to the community on Wednesday, Ahmed appealed to residents, including youths and elders, to collaborate with security agencies in the ongoing search for the missing corps member. He also inspected the site of the incident and emphasized the importance of host communities ensuring the safety and welfare of corps members posted to their areas.
“The purpose of my visit is to appeal for assistance in finding the missing corps member, who came to serve his nation from another state,” Ahmed stated. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to advocating for improved security measures and welfare for all NYSC participants nationwide.
Ahmed added, “It is also the responsibility of host communities to ensure the security and welfare of corps members serving in their domain.”
During the visit, a meeting was held with community leaders, including the Youth President, Etete Jerb Anthony, and the Ward Secretary, Paul Friday. The leaders highlighted their efforts in searching for Farouk, who disappeared while working at a Chinese mining company in the area. They reassured the NYSC chief of their continued commitment to the search and rescue operations.
