NYSC reopens Borno state camp after 13-year insecurity hiatus

In a significant development, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially reopened its camp in Borno State, marking the end of a 13-year closure prompted by security concerns. ML Yusuf, the esteemed Commissioner of Police for the Borno State Command, undertook a pivotal visit to the orientation camp in preparation for the imminent deployment of corps members on August 18, 2023.

The purpose of the CP’s visit was to conduct a comprehensive security assessment of the newly established orientation camp located at the Arabic Teachers College in Maiduguri. He articulated that this evaluation is crucial for determining the optimal deployment strategy, ensuring a peaceful and seamless commencement of the orientation scheduled for August 18th, 2023.

The Commissioner of Police placed emphasis on the NYSC orientation in Maiduguri, underscoring its symbolic significance as a hallmark of the state’s resurgence in terms of peace and stability after an extended hiatus of thirteen years.

During his visit, the CP held deliberations with Hon Tijjani Bukar, the Secretary to the State Government, and Mr Mohammed Jiya Adamu, the state coordinator of the NYSC. The discussions aimed to chart a course for a smooth and successful camping experience for all involved.

The CP offered unequivocal assurance regarding the deployment of an adequate and strategically positioned contingent of police personnel at critical junctures including camp entry, exit points, and other vital locations. This measure intends to bolster security and guarantee the well-being of participants.

It’s worth noting that corps members designated for deployment in Borno had been temporarily stationed in Katsina throughout the duration of the camp’s prolonged closure.
