Ochacho Carnival: Organisers break silence on death of Jennifer Robert, one other in Otukpo

It has become necessary to respond to some reports making the round on our social media space that one 23 year old Miss Jennifer Robert and another person (whose name is yet to be established) were gruesomely murdered at the ongoing Ochacho Carnival in Otukpo, Benue State.

The Ochacho Carnival Planning Committee, OCPC), wish to inform the general public that the said incident did not occur at the venue of the ongoing Ochacho Carnival. The incident reportedly happened at some two streets away from the venue of the carnival.

As confirmed from our security reports, an allegedly drunk gun-wielding Civil Defense officer simply identified as Adakole Kapon opened fire on the female victim, Jennifer Robert, over a yet to be established dispute between the both of them and left her dead. It was also reported that a stray bullet hit the male victim who also died on the spot.

After the shooting, report says attempts by Mr. Adakole Kapon to escape the area met a brick wall as passersby rushed to the venue of the incident and apprehended the gun-wielding Civil Defense officer who has been taken to the Otukpo Divisional Headquarters of the Nigerian Police for further actions.

We dissociate organisers of the Ochacho Carnival from this wanton and avoidable dastard act. The Ochacho Carnival is organized by some reputable Idoma youngsters in other to entertain the Idoma nation during the yuletide season. And while security measures were top on the list of activities at the event, large quantities of nose masks and hand sanitizers were made available to all participants in other to prevent person-to-person transmission of the dreaded Covid-19 virus.

We also wish to make it clear that the killer Civil Defense officer, Mr. Adakole Kapon, was/is not a part of the security formation handling security issues at the Ochacho Carnival.

We herein advise rumormongers and hired propagandists who are out to tarnish the enviable image of King Muhammed Adah, also known as Ochacho, to desist from such forthwith, otherwise legal actions would be taken against anyone found wanting in this regard. King Muhammed Ochacho has a reputation for legitimate dealings in real estate and hospitality business across Nigeria and other parts of the world; hence attempts by anyone to soil his name in any illegal dealings would be met with appropriate actions.

While we appeal to the public, especially supporters and fans of King Muhammed Ochacho, to exercise calmness and remain law-abiding in the face of this ignoble act since the Nigerian Police, Otukpo command has launched full investigation into this wanton killing, we pray for the soul of the victims to rest in the Lord.

Thank you.

Mr. Agbo Dave
