Ochanya Ogbaje: ‘Girls need pen, not penis’ – Protesters shutdown Lagos over 13-yr-old teenager raped to death in Benue

Some protesters on Friday stormed streets on Lagos to register their anger of the death of a 13-year-old teenage girl, Ochanya Ogbaje, who was allegedly raped to death by her in-law, one Mr. Andrew Ogbuja and his son.

Ochanya had battled Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) and other health complications at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi after being allegedly severely abused by one Andrew Ogboja, Head of Department, Catering and Hotel Management at the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, Benue State, and his son, Victor Inalegwu Ogboja, a final year student of Animal Production at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

The duo consistently molested little Ochanya, a student of Federal Government Girls’ College, Gboko since she was 9 to age 13.

The protesters, who were clad in black attires, diaplayed placards with various inscriptions such as, “give girls pen, not penis, ‘we are all Ochanya, Justice for Ochanya now.”

Leading the protest, human rights worker and blogger, Juliet Mimi Atedze, called on the federal and Benue State governments not to sweep the case under the carpet.

She insisted that the culprits must be brought to book without delay.

Here are some photos from the protest.
