Ado Local Government Executive Chairman, James Oche and his Otukpo and Ogbadibo counterparts, George Alli and Prince Onuh among several others yesterday witnessed the flag off of the Special Works Programme in Makurdi.
The event which took place at the Ibrahim Babangida (IBB) Square Makurdi had the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) as Chief Host, Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom as Distinguished Guest of Honour and Sen. George Akume the Minister for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs as Host.
You may recall that the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment had sometime ago, through the National Directorate of Employment advanced the special public works programme meant to place one thousand Nigerians in every local government on a twenty thousand naira paying social and public job that would last several months.
His Royal Majesty, Orchivirigh Prof. James Ayatse, the Tor Tiv V was the Royal Father of the Day while Mallam Abubakar Nuhu, the Acting Director General of the National Directorate of Employment was also present.
Speaking after the event, James Oche expressed delight with the programme and said he was particularly elated that it was largely a grassroots programme and appreciated the State and Federal Government for the steps carefully taken to make the programme a reality. He enjoined Ado Local Government beneficiaries to make the best of it.
With the Flagg off, we are made to understand that the programme will now begin in earnest.
