The Ochetoha K’Idoma is deeply saddened by the senseless and unprovoked attack on the people of Odugbeha Community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State on the 6th June, 2021, by persons suspected to be herdsmen. The attack claimed over twenty lives, injured several persons and destroyed many houses and other valuable properties.
We as an umbrella body of all socio-cultural organizations in Idoma Nation express our deepest condolences and sympathies to the people of Odugbeho Community in Agatu Local Government Area and the entire Idoma Nation for this highly condemnable and unacceptable carnage.
We condemn in the strongest terms the taking of arms against defenceless and unarmed people, as this represents the worst form of wickedness against humanity.
We note with sadness and pains that the unfortunate incident has pursued many residents from their ancestral homes to the neighbouring communities, which has created humanitarian crises in these communities .
We call upon the relevant State and Federal Government institutions, political representatives and other well- meaning Nigerians to provide humanitarian and relief materials to Odugbeho Community.
We also appeal to both the Benue State and Federal Governments to take appropriate measures to prevent the reoccurrence of this devastating and ugly incident.
We pray that the Almighty God grants eternal peace to those who lost their lives, speedy and permanent healing to the injured and comfort and console the family of the deceased as well as those who suffered loss of valuable properties in the carnage.
