The traditional ruler of Owukpa community, Chief Emmanuel Odeh (Onomo), has confirmed the crisis between some Fulani herdsmen and Owukpa community.IDOMA VOICE had reported that crisis was brewing in the Coal Coal City, following the invasion of some herders to forcefully build a mosque in Eyupi.
One of the herdsmen also lost his finger in an attempt to rape a teenage girl in the village stream.Speaking with IDOMA VOICE on Saturday morning, the Onomo confirmed that he had issued a quit notice to the visitors before now but they have refused to leave despite his order.
He said after the notice, he reported to the LG authorities, who promised to take it up.
“I wonder why they are still here. I was informed about the attempt by one of the herdsmen to rape a teenage girl in Eyupi stream, we are still investigating who was behind the cruel act.
“The LG promised to take it up after we informed the visitors to leave because our people were complaining that their crops and farm produce were being destroyed by the herders and their cattle.
On whether the people were trying to forcefully build a mosque in Owukpa, the monarch said, “I was also informed about the development but we are still investigating it as well because before you can’t just enter someone’s land and begin to build a house or place of worship without the person’s consent. We will iron all these out and let the people know the details soon,” the royal father said.
