Christian Eriksen has signed a three-year contract with Manchester United after the expiration of his contract with Brentford.
The Dane, who made a successful comeback to English football with Brentford last season, has chosen to continue his career at Old Trafford. The 30-year-old joined the Bees seven months after experiencing a cardiac arrest while competing for Denmark at the postponed Euro 2020 tournament.
Eriksen later underwent implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) surgery, but due to Serie A rules on ICDs, he was unable to continue playing for Inter, the team he had joined from Tottenham in January 2020.
He signed a six-month contract with Brentford after being released from his contract at the conclusion of 2021. However, Eriksen has been encouraged to continue his career under the direction of new United boss Erik ten Hag. He said: “Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started.
“I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling. I have seen Erik’s work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day. It is clear that he is a fantastic coach. Having spoken with him and learned more about his vision and the way he wants the team to play, I am even more excited for the future.”
