Ogbomoso Kingmakers disregard court ruling, enthrone Afolabi Olaoye as Soun

Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye assumed the position of the new Soun of Ogbomoso in the early hours of Friday. This installation took place despite a recent Oyo State High Court order instructing the state governor and others not to present him with the instrument of office.

Justice K.A Adedokun led the court’s ruling, which also prohibited Olaoye from acting as the candidate for any ceremony related to the issuance of a certificate of installation or wearing any attire resembling that of the Soun of Ogbomoso Chieftaincy until the court hears and conclusively decides on the pending mandatory injunction.

Notwithstanding this court order, Olaoye’s installation ceremony occurred at Abata in Ogbomosjo, led by the kingmakers, with High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin serving as their head. The kingmakers asserted that they had not received any court injunction preventing them from carrying out Olaoye’s installation as the Soun of Ogbomoso.
