Operatives from the Odeda Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat, valued at N200,000, for his child’s naming ceremony.
The arrest was made on January 2, 2024, in the Odeda area, alongside his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf. According to the spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, the suspects are accused of stealing the goat from a farm after the owner, known only as Mark, took the cattle out for grazing on December 25.
Upon returning, Mark noticed one of his goats was missing and alerted the community. A search followed, during which villagers reported seeing the two suspects with the missing goat on a motorcycle, heading toward Olodo town.
Following the tip-off, detectives were dispatched and successfully apprehended the suspects in the early hours of January 2, 2025.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the theft, detailing how they stole, transported, and slaughtered the he-goat on December 27, 2024, to prepare food for Waris’s daughter’s naming ceremony held in Olodo.
The suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing further investigation at the Divisional Crime Branch. Odutola assured the public that the suspects will be prosecuted once the investigation concludes and promised to provide updates as the case progresses.
