Ogun State government reaffirms ban on school fees, levies

The government of Ogun State reiterates the prohibition of collecting fees or levies by school administrators in both public primary and secondary schools across the state.

Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Education, Science, and Technology, emphasized this during a meeting with education stakeholders in the state for the 2023/2024 Academic Session pre-resumption.

He reaffirmed that the state government’s policy of providing free education remains unchanged, covering the costs of materials, maintenance, and facility provision in schools.

Arigbabu stressed that the administration had abolished all forms of payments at the outset to promote widespread access to quality education without financial constraints.

Furthermore, he encouraged school principals and headteachers to uphold and reward merit within their respective institutions. He also outlined the government’s guidelines for making donations to schools or utilizing school facilities for events to prevent disruptions to academic activities.

In addition to these measures, Arigbabu mentioned that the government is actively working on strategies to enhance security in schools and urged school administrators to promote religious tolerance and uphold the state’s reputation.
