Ogun State police commissioner takes action to reduce road accidents

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, has implemented measures to curb the rising number of road accidents in the state, particularly among drivers of articulated vehicles and commercial buses.

In response to this concern, the Ogun police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the Commissioner of Police, after a thorough evaluation of the situation, has directed the Area Commander in Sagamu and other security agencies to collaborate with stakeholders in the installation of safety signage along highways.

These signage boards will play a vital role in alerting motorists to recommended speed limits and expected kilometer-per-hour values, thereby promoting safer driving practices.

As the holiday season approaches, Commissioner Alamutu has urged all road users, especially those traveling on the Lagos-Ibadan highway, to exercise caution and refrain from engaging in reckless driving behaviors that jeopardize their safety and the safety of others.

He has advised against speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, overloading, using faulty tires or lights, driving against traffic, not wearing seat belts, and participating in speed competitions, all of which are considered road traffic violations that can lead to preventable fatalities.

To ensure compliance with these safety measures, the Commissioner of Police has called on motorists to obey road signs, cooperate with the Motor Traffic Department of the police, and follow their instructions when on the road.

Additionally, motorists who transport fuel or engage in activities that involve burning bushes for games are advised to exercise extra caution to prevent uncontrollable fire incidents that could endanger lives and properties.
