Okpokwu killings, insecurity in Idoma Land: Time to take action (Opinion)

By Noah McDickson

The incessant killings in Okpokwu and the insecurity in the entire Idoma nation calls for concern as lives and properties are lost virtually every week.

Women and children are deserting their homes for the fear of attacks which has become a daily rituals. Therefore, as a peace loving son of the great Idoma nation, I cannot pretend to be at peace with myself if our brothers and sisters are being killed daily.

I wish to call on all stakeholders, especially the political elites to wake up from their slumber and provide security for the common people before Okpokwu and other parts of Idoma land become a theatre of war. We do not need a rocket scientist to know that Idoma nation is gradually degenerating to Syria and Mogadishu as human lives no longer worth nothing.

I want to use this medium to call our leaders to action. Everybody must be involved to get the desired peace and harmony that Idoma nation is known for.
There is need to call for a security meeting to address these unholy acts.

The peace summit should involve chairmen of local government, State House of Assembly members, House of Representative members, the senator and the state governor who is the chief security officer of the state. We should leave no stone unturned as youths, women group, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other critical stakeholders irrespective of political party affiliation shall be represented.
I repeat, the time for action is now.
