Hon. Amina Audu (FIPAM, JP), Caretaker Chairman of Okpokwu LGA, Benue State has received a Merit Award at the 18th Local Government Chairmen Merit Award (LOGMA).
The occasion took place at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, under the chairmanship of Hon. (Barr) Alabi Kolade David, National President of ALGON ably represented by Alhaji Nuhu Salawu Ozigi, Director of Finance & Supply while Senator (Dr) George Akume, Minister of Special Duties & Governmental Affairs serves as Special Guest of Honour.
The great honour which was bestowed on the virtuous woman assuage believe that a prophet who encountered trial at home could be honoured in foreign land. It is in this regards that the great Oscar Wilde opined that “what seems to us as bitter trials are often blessings in disguise”.
On assumption of office, the Chairman inherited a deteriorated security situation that brought an upheaval to the local government council. A pathetic situation that placed the local government on ‘Red Alert’, and unforgettable nightmare to indigenous populace and travellers.
With thorough and pragmatic initiatives superintend by the Deputy Governor, Engineer Benson Abounu. Under the watch of Hon. Amina Audu, commandos and their lieutenants brokered peace, warring communities accepted peace and the good people of Okpokwu got sigh of relief and enjoyed peace. A feat that is difficult to achieve in recent years.
On dearth of infrastructure, the council chairman took the bull by the horn to reconstruct damaged fence and entrance gate to the local government secretariat which is 95% completion.
More so, the abandoned finance department has been given a facelift. It is important to note that work is on going in works department and other departments with replacement of dilapidated roof sheets and other accessories.
On food security, she ensure timely distribution of seedlings and farm inputs to peasant farmers. She also mobilises health and adhoc staff for effective distribution of drugs to the hinterland to ensure every child is immunised against dreaded diseases.
According to Hon. Amina Audu, “this award will spur me to do more and it is dedicated to the people of Okpokwu LGA who are always there for me in time of needs”.
In the words of Napoleon Hill, “when your desires are strong enough, you will appear to possess superhuman powers to achieve”. Hitherto, these salient achievements and many others informed this Merit Award on noble and super Caretaker Chairman of Okpokwu LGA.
