Oldest man in Benue community dies at 132, burial scheduled for Friday

The oldest man in Kwande Local Government Area, Pa Asongo Igbianyonngo, has passed away at the age of 132 years.

IDOMA VOICE gathered that Pa Asongo died on 21st December 2025 and will be laid to rest on Friday, 27th February 2026, in his hometown of Mbakyior, Yaav Council Ward, Turan.

Pa Asongo, widely revered as the Custodian of the Holy Thumb of King Jato-Aka, leaves behind a legacy that transcends bloodlines, as he had no biological children.

The Mbachom Supreme Council has invited the public to honor his life and legacy, describing the late elder as a figure whose impact is felt by all in the community. 

The council has also called for public support to give the legendary figure a fitting farewell.

The wake will hold on Wednesday, 26th February 2026, ahead of the burial ceremony.

Chief Fabian, representing the council, extended gratitude to those who have already contributed and promised formal acknowledgment in due course.

“Having traveled at the remarkable age of 132, Baba Asongo leaves behind a legacy that transcends bloodlines. As he had no biological children, we are all honored to be considered his children,” the council stated in a notice.
