Oba Dr. Moshood Lekan Balogun, also known as Alli Okunmade II, the revered Olubadan of Ibadan land, has passed away. His demise occurred on Thursday evening at the University College Hospital following a brief illness.
Born on October 18, 1942, Oba Olalekan ascended to the esteemed position of the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland on March 11, 2022.
Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, confirmed the sad news, announcing that Olubadan Balogun transitioned to the realm of ancestors late Thursday evening at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan.
Governor Makinde hailed Oba Dr. Balogun as a paragon of royal excellence and a remarkable achiever who left an indelible mark on Ibadanland in his relatively brief reign of just over two years.
Expressing heartfelt condolences, Governor Makinde extended sympathies to the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council, and the people of Ibadanland and Oyo State. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed monarch’s soul.
He remarked, “With profound acceptance of God’s will, I announce the passing of our revered father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.”
“A towering figure has departed; Oba Dr. Balogun now joins the ancestral realm. In him, Ibadanland had a visionary and seasoned Olubadan, whose legacy will endure through the annals of history.”
“On behalf of the Government and the compassionate People of Oyo State, I offer condolences to the immediate family of Oba Dr. Balogun, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Oyo State Traditional Council, and the entire community of Ibadanland.”
