Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kayode Ajulo, voiced concerns on Monday, alleging that certain officials within the administration of Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu are signing documents on behalf of the ailing governor. Ajulo, Principal Partner of Kayode Ajulo & Co. Castle of Law, raised these claims during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show programme.
Highlighting the situation, Ajulo pointed out that the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, cannot constitutionally assume power in the absence of a formal transfer, leaving room for potential influence by behind-the-scenes figures.
Ajulo stated, “I have it on good authority as a lawyer. Some of the commissioners, about five of them, sent memos to the governor, and they all returned with approval. Going through the approval compared to what the governor had approved when he was hale and hearty, there are notable disparities in them.”
He further added, “The Police and Administration of Justice Act has made it clear that there can be private investigators who have been contacted because of the issue, and their results are so damning. In fact, EFCC needs to visit Ondo State to ask some questions. The purported signature is not from the governor. It is so apparent.”
The reported leadership crisis in the state took a turn on November 25 when President Bola Tinubu intervened, urging opposing factions to embrace peace and maintain the status quo. Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa pledged unity among officials, and Speaker Oladiji Olamide resolved to halt impeachment efforts against Aiyedatiwa. Tinubu’s meeting with state officials, including APC members, aimed at reconciling factions and fostering unity.
Aiyedatiwa affirmed his commitment to maintaining the status quo and fostering unity, stating, “I want to say that I pledge to all of you that I embrace every one of you. I put behind all that has happened before now. I’ve let go and also let God, just as the President has advised us.”
