One dead, 18 others injured in ghastly accident along Osogbo/Gbongan Highway

A man who was said to be going to a hospital in Osogbo for medical checks was killed in an autoctash which happened along Osogbo/Gbongan Highway in Osun State.

It was gathered that the accident, which happened at Abere community on Monday afternoon, also left 18 passengers injured.

Eye witnesses said the accident which happened close to Osun State Civil Service Secretariat was caused by overspeeding.

One of the eyewitnesses said the only man who died in the accident was travelling to a hospital in Osogbo for medical checks while other passengers sustained varrying degrees of injuries.

The Public Relations Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Osun State Command, Agnes Ogungbemi, confirmed that one person was killed and 18 person was injured in the lone accident.

She said, “The accident occurred around 1:45pm at State Secretariat, Abere along Osogbo/Gbongan road.

The lone accident involved a white Toyota Hiace with registration number EKY 213 XP.

“Twenty passengers were involved in the accident. We have taken the injured victims to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo while the family of the deceased has taken the corpse of the man that died.”
