One dead, another injured as suspected herders attack Benue community
Security operatives under Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), working alongside the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, have reacted to an assault reportedly carried out by suspected armed herders in Agbaaye village, located in Buruku Local Government Area.
According to a military insider, troops stationed in Buruku and Zaki Biam swung into action after receiving credible intelligence, arriving at the scene around 9:30 a.m. on March 26.
The source disclosed that no contact was made with the attackers as they had fled before the arrival of security forces.
“On reaching the location, troops discovered the corpse of one local resident, while another victim who sustained injuries was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention,” the source said.
Following the incident, security personnel secured and maintained presence in the area to forestall further violence and restrict the movement of the attackers.
The source reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to protect lives and property, as well as sustain ongoing operations against criminal elements in the state.
