Efforts by personnel of Nigeria Police and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps deplored to prevent the attack proved abortive as the irate mob resisted all entities and carried out the action alleging that the murder was committed by one of the sons of the late Chief.

The said event which occurred at Ugbokpo town was said to be a shootout by two rival cult groups on the celebration of “7/7 Confraternity Day” usually marked on 7th July, every year in Nigeria.

A resident of the area told newsmen that rather than allowing the Police who were on top of the situation do their job by fishing out those involved in the dastardly act, “the arsonists took the law into their hands.”
