One killed, another injured as gunmen attack tax point in Benue

Barely 48 hours after an unsuccessful attack on the Executive Chairman Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Dr. Andrew Ayabam, unknown gunmen this evening attacked a BIRS tax point in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Local Government Area.

The incident which occured this evening resulted in the death of a passerby and the injury of another non-staff even as no BIRS staff was injured or killed in the attack.

According to eye witness, the gunmen numbering about six wearing Nigerian Army uniforms attacked the inspection point on a convoy of motorcycles shooting sporadically which resulted in the death of one person who was within the vicinity while anotherperson sustained injuries.

This is coming on the heels of a previous attack on the Executive Chairman in Makurdi by illegal tax operators.

While today’s attack has been reported to the police, arrests have been made of those behind the attack of Dr. Andrew Ayabam.

The police yesterday paraded three suspects, Mr. Ishoho Iorwuese, Timothy Shomgi and Orna Sunday who are staff of Ben Rozy Limited a company which has been parading as tax consultants and fleecing unsuspecting tax payers as allegedly responsible for the attack.
