[OPINION]: Benue guber 2023: The old has given way to the new order

He is a bold statement that the era of “Press Boys” is forever gone. We are now in the era of “Gentlemen of the Press” or “Media Professionals.”

We have seen them before – I mean journalists. They come in and serve as press secretaries (under different titles) to governors, ministers or even presidents.

When their time is done, the majority return to the newsrooms, others rise to commissioners/ministers and, still, some become media/communication consultants.

The few, that are really bold and have what it takes eye (and go to) State Assemblies, the Chairmanship of Local Government Councils, House of Reps and, rarely, the Senate.

I don’t know any other media aide by whatever designation (press secretary, special assistant, executive assistant, principal assistant, special adviser etc) who has aspired to succeed his principal! Akase is in a class of his own!

If you know one, tell me. If you don’t know, join me in wishing this bold media ambassador well as he readies himself to take the bull by the horns.

Ahead, ahead, Mr. Terver Akase.

Simon is a veteran journalist and former editor of some reputable newspapers
