I was the first person who defined what Buharideen means on social media. People may have an idea what they mean when you refer to someone or some groups as Buharideens, but no one thought of defining the concept. I did. It still has the same meaning.
Buharideens are the characters who support Buhari no matter what because he is a Muslim, Fulani and a northerner. That’s the basis for which they support Buhari, the Buhari administration, and they would say or do from the most outrageous to the dangerous for an aimless support devoid of much substance that hinges on religious fanaticism and tribal bigotry.
Buharists are those who thought Buhari stood for something. They were fed up with the way Nigeria was being run by PDP and thought what they had heard and read about Buhari was truth. They swallowed all the propaganda without asking questions, they were blinded in their support, some of these guys were PhD holders, lectures, based overseas, even genuinely thought that Buharism was something they could take to the bank. They were mostly educated Middle Class Nigerians, but even educated people can be shallow, irrational, and miss the larger picture throughout history and follow the wrong path.
What does Buharism mean today? No one can define it. Buharism was something they wished and it all was waiting on Buhari’s performance or attempt to change Nigeria for the better to get a meaning, to derive its definition from. That meaning has simply evaporated with Buhari dismal and embarrassing performance. It turnout the Buhari himself doesn’t stand by any meaningful ideology, he is not even a nationalist, but a tribal and religious bigot, a nepotistic clueless and confused man who’s only interest in wearing caftan and posing and Commander in Chief.
The man who came into power on the campaign of mainly fighting corruption has some of the most corrupt people surrounding him and his government has been plagued by allegations of corruption that his anti-corruption chief was sack corruptly for corruption.
