Opinion: The terrible state of the federal road running through Otukpo, Benue State

It is no secret that since 1999, the Zone C of Benue State having a total of 9 Local Government Areas has been a PDP Zone till date.

Our illustrious son-Senator David Bonaventure Mark held sway in the Senate to the point of being the Senate President a record breaking 3 times. SDM did a lot for our people especially in the area of Human Capital Development in the sense of ensuring our children got Federal employments. No one can take this away from him.

He helped groomed politicians who he led to the Federal Level. Some Ministers, some heads of Govt Agencies and Paratatals. Most prominent amongst them is the current Senator representing Zone C who took over from him-Comrade Patrick Abba Moro..who also stepped in the shoes of his predecessor in the area of providing employment for teeming Zone C Youths at the Federal level. This is not a hidden secret.

Zone C, has produced very active National Assembly Members from 1999 till date but one issues begs for serious explanation which seems non of our political Reps have been able to provide till now.

WHY IS THE FEDERAL ROAD RUNNING THROUGH OTUKPO REMAINED IN TGIS DEPLORABLE STATE FROM 1999 TILL DATE?

We have been hearing that the contract for the road has been awarded for the umpteenth time, yet we do not see any execution in sight.

Below is the present state of the road even after the present senator of the Zone made arrangements for its grading recently which is not his primary responsibility. We expect him to engage the necessary authorities as part of his oversight functions in the National Assembly to find a permanent solution to the problem.

What is really the problem? Are our political Reps past and present not ashamed of this road? Can they proudly bring their political associate to Otukp to this ruins called a road?

What have they been doing all these years that this road is left uncattered for like this? This is a huge shame on the whole leaders of Zone C.

Today we hear that a group of persons under the platform-REBIRTH BENUE MOVEMENT (RBM) have called for donations from the people of Zone C towards the rehabilitation of this road.

While it is not completely a bad gesture the movement should also develop the balls to question our political leaders both past and present why they failed all these years to influence the construction of the road and demand that these politicians from 1999 till date be responsible for fixing the road since they could not influence the construction of the road and they have been collecting Constituency allowances.

We cannot continue to shy away from the fact that that road has brought nothing but embarrassment to the whole of Zone C.It is an eye sore right in the town which symbolises Zone C-Oturkpo. Almost all political leaders from Zone C has house in Oturkpo. How on earth could they not bother about that road till now?

Let us all stop the praise singing. Let us stand up and demand for leadership and accountability. We cannot continue like this.

Enough is enough.
