Ahmed Isah, the host of the Human Rights Radio and Television program Brekete Family—popularly known as “Ordinary President” has sharply criticised Senate President Godswill Akpabio over a recent clash with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
IDOMA VOICE reports that the altercation unfolded during a plenary session on Thursday when Natasha discovered her assigned seat had been changed upon the session’s resumption.
Refusing to accept the reassignment, she challenged the decision, which led to a heated exchange in the chamber. In response, Akpabio ordered security to remove her from the Senate floor.
Speaking on the Brekete Family program on Friday, Ordinary President condemned Akpabio’s handling of the situation, accusing him of “dragging Natasha down.” He called on women’s organizations to stand up in support of the embattled lawmaker and denounced the Senate’s leadership as autocratic.
“Are we really practicing democracy?” he questioned, adding that while the National Assembly should exemplify democratic values, the Senate appears to operate under autocratic rule.
He contrasted this with the House of Representatives, which he praised for their commendable conduct. “One man with a red cap telling someone’s wife to keep quiet is simply unacceptable.
Thank God she maintained her dignity by standing up for herself—even after being forcibly removed. But where are the women’s organizations? It’s been a day and there’s been no reaction,” he lamented.
Through his candid remarks, Ordinary President expressed his deep disappointment with the Senate’s approach and urged for immediate accountability and support for female lawmakers.
