One of the primary organizers of the #EndBadGovernance protest, the Take It Back Movement, has announced a major demonstration planned for this Saturday. The protest will see a one-million-man march in all 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Sanyaolu Juwon, the movement’s national coordinator, made the announcement on Thursday in Abuja.
He stated: “On August 10, the Take It Back Movement (TIB) will lead a monumental one-million-man protest in each of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, alongside other organizers and groups.”
He added, “This event marks a significant milestone in our nationwide EndBadGovernanceInNigeria campaign, which began on August 1, 2024. Initially planned as a 10-day protest, the campaign has grown into a broad and enduring movement with participants from across Nigeria and the diaspora.”
The ‘End Bad Governance’ demonstrations, which began on August 1, are set to conclude on August 10.
The campaign aims to spotlight the severe challenges faced by citizens and urge government action at all levels.
Despite attempts by criminal elements to hijack the protests, large numbers of participants have continued to show up, particularly in northern states. President Bola Tinubu, in a broadcast on Sunday, urged demonstrators to pause and allow his administration more time to address their concerns. Nevertheless, protests persist in cities such as Kano and Abuja.
In response, the Nigerian Government has placed sponsors of the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests on a watchlist. Kemi Nandap, Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS), announced this on Tuesday in Abuja during a strategic meeting led by Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa. Nandap revealed that sponsors from the Diaspora will be arrested upon their return to Nigeria.
Following a closed-door meeting of defense and security heads, Nandap confirmed, “We have placed Diaspora sponsors on our watchlist. Any attempt they make to enter the country will be monitored, and they will be apprehended and handed over to the relevant authorities.”
