Orlu killings: Buhari, Buratai under fire as soldiers shoot Imo residents

Nigerians on social media have launched a Twitter firestorm with the hashtag “Orlu”, to lash the President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, Maj. Gen. Mohammedu Buhari (rtd), and the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, over the altercation by the military in Orlu, Imo State, on Monday.

IDOMA VOICE reports that following the killing of a soldier by the Eastern Security Network, ESN, some men of the Nigerian Army opened fire on residents of Orlu, in Imo State, with one person reportedly dead.

Taking to mini blog, Twitter, Nigerians lamented bitterly over the act of the unprofessional soldiers, and the present state of security in the country.

“Soldiers take pin down on roads of Orlu, Imo state. Releasing live rounds. There is a lifeless body of a citizen drenched in blood lying somewhere.

“Can the @HQNigerianArmy @DefenceInfoNG please communicate what’s going on here in Orlu Town to the public?

It certainly has the appearance of a war scene.

Is an entire town under combat operation from our Military?

Popular influencer and EndSARS protester, Rinu wrote;

“Every day, bad news in this country.

There is little to nothing to be happy about.

Just look at Orlu.”

FFK wrote;

“The clash between soldiers and members ESN in Orlu, Imo state today has resulted in some deaths & this is unfortunate. I call for restraint on both sides. The soldiers ought to be deployed against killer herdsmen and not ESN. When will Buhari learn. Chidera Agu please stay safe.”
