Ortom is a tyrant, three generations can’t repay his loans in Benue – Suswam

Immediate past governor of Benue State, Dr. Gabriel Torwua Suswam, has decried the rate at which his successor, Samuel Ortom obtain loans “without anything to show for it”.
Suswam stated this at Lessel community in Benue State on Sunday where he and his wife, Yemisi Dooshima were hosted to a Thanksgiving Service and Grand Reception by the Benue Zone ‘A’ Women Progressive Forum to mark their first year out of office as the First Family of the state.

Addressing the mammoth crowd that thronged to receive him at the Lessel College of Education, venue of the Grand Reception, Suswam lamented the rate of hunger and poverty ravaging the Benue, largely due to failure of the ruling government to live up to its responsibility by paying workers wages and providing an enabling environment for the thriving of business.
According to Suswam, “A government that is burdening poor market women and petty traders with excessive taxation, but is owing workers salaries, is actively cultivated an environment of insecurity through a dubious amnesty programme. A government which oversees the most vicious and wholesale looting of public funds should be chased away by the people through the ballot.”, Suswam noted.
“It is the duty of the opposition to speak out at such a moment of darkness; to keep quiet will only serve to surrender the entire fortunes of this state into the hands of an insensitive regime made up of a group of looters who have not paid any attention to the sufferings of the people but have rather done everything to increase poverty and misery in the land since coming into power.”
“The Ortom regime has failed on all fronts, yet it is so intolerant of opposing views, and always quick to crackdown on its opponents, many of whom it has thrown into detention a number of times. As governor, I never moved against any opponent, but allowed freedom of speech. This was the foundation upon which the 2015 elections were conducted, paving way for the present government to come into power.
“I will not be intimidated into silence no matter the threats. Together, we must resist the tyranny and bad governance by this regime which has borrowed so much that three generations ahead won’t be able to repay”.
