Ortom threatens Agatu youths with ‘stick approach’

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has threatened to deal with youths from Agatu local government area if they try to create unrest or chaos in the land.

Gov. Ortom made this known when people of Agatu led by the Och’Agatu and other prominent members of the area, paid him a courtesy visit at the Benue People’s House Makurdi.

The governor while reacting to an allegation regarding him collecting money from the WNDP, deemed the allegation as baseless and mere concoction by mischief makers aimed at reducing his personality.

“Neither me nor the Program Coordinator, Dr Noah Adeboh collected any dime from WNDP. They are going to execute the project at no expense of the villagers nor government,” the Governor said.

He went further saying he was pained that Agatu youths were opposing the construction of the housing estate, demanding for compensation before work could start.

“Go back to your community and speak with the youth; as a father of the state I will give them another opportunity to retrace their steps or the project will be moved elsewhere.

“The fight over land and fish pond must end and we will not apply the stick approach now, but after this grace period, we will apply the stick.
“I want Agatu to be developed and that the reason why I awarded the road from Oshugbudu to Ogbagaji and others is to make the place better and developed,” the governor added.
