Former Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo has expressed his thoughts on the recent judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the victor of the February 25, 2023 presidential election.
In a statement personally signed by Osinbajo and released by his media office, he hailed the PEPT ruling as a significant triumph for democracy and the rule of law.
“The ruling is a great victory for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and the rule of law,” he affirmed.
Osinbajo, who was a contender in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election and secured the third position behind Tinubu and former Transport Minister Chibuike Amaechi, noted that the practice of democracy in Nigeria has been further fortified by this decision.
Furthermore, he emphasized that it signifies a win for democracy as all parties meticulously adhered to the electoral procedures as dictated by the law and sought resolution through the judiciary in case of disputes.
