A young man named Okibe Otsapa met a tragic end when he was reportedly lynched by an enraged mob following accusations of stealing a television set from a local beer joint in Otukpo, Benue State,
A petition addressed to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, filed by Napoleon Chambers, fingered on Mr. Owoicho George Adama, popularly known as Owie Banker, in the murder of Otsapa.
The petition alleged that Owie Banker, owner of a beer parlor in Otukpo, claimed to have used a “magical bible” to identify Otsapa as the thief. Subsequently, Otsapa was summoned to the beer parlor and fatally beaten by the suspect and his accomplices.
According to the petition, Owie Banker boasted of his connections with influential politicians in Benue State and expressed confidence that he would evade arrest.
According to the petition, “Our Clients informed us that Mr. Owoicho George Adama (A.K.A OWIE BANKER) (the suspect) has a beer parlor joint in Otukpo, Benue State. On the 25th April, 2024, the suspect alleged that Mr. Okibe Otsapa stole his television set from the beer parlor joint.
“The suspect alleged that he invoked his “magical bible” to detect the person that stole his television set and the “magical bible” turned towards the position of Mr Okibe Otsapa and therefore it was Okibe who stole his television set.”
The chambers further stated that the suspect summoned Mr. Okibe Otsapa to his beer parlor joint and beat him to death along with many hoodlums loyal to him, boasting that he trusted the judgment of his “magical bible.”
“Upon the gruesome murder of Mr. Okibe Otsapa, we were further briefed that the suspect has been boasting on the streets of Otukpo that he trusted the infallible judgment of his “magical bible” and that he had succeeded in eliminating Mr. Okibe Otsapa and that nobody can challenge him.
“He openly bragged of his iron-cast connections with high profile politicians in Benue State. He stated that his politician friends would always protect him against any arrest.”
In response to the incident, Senator Abba Moro, representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, condemned the act of jungle justice.
He urged the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and instead cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
Senator Moro expressed condolences to the family and friends of the victim and called for a thorough investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
