Otukpo: George Ali inaugurates Benue State Community Volunteer Guards

As part of effort to sustain the gains recorded from his crusade against criminality in Otukpo and its envrions, the Otukpo Local Government Chairman, Rt. Hon. George Alli, on Friday Ferbruary 25th inaugurated the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, Otukpo.

Speaking during the inauguration of the security outfit at the Local Government Secretariat, the Chairman thanked Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom and his Deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu for their guidance and continued suppport for his adminsitration. The Council Boss also praised the Ofu K’Idoma, Abuja Chapter, led by Mr. Emmanuel Abechi for their partnership effort through the donation of uniforms for members of the volunteer guards. Alli stressed that the Ofu K’Idoma’s gesture underscores the importance the group’s leadership places on security.

Speaking further, the Former State House of Assembly Lawmaker reiterated his administration’s commitment to the eradication of crime in Otukpo. He stressed that security is everybody’s business and called on the people to assist the security with timely useful informations that will make their jobs easier. “If you see something, say something”, Alli said.

“These volunteers you are seeing with colourful uniforms have undergone training and will operate in accordance with the legal requirements of the Nigerian constitution. They are here for all of us. Cooperate with them to keep all of us safe”

“In addition they are expected to collaborate with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies for a timely, effective responses to all security matters within our communities,” Alli intoned. He therefor urged the people to go about their normal businesss with confidence as government is there to protect them.

The Zonal Commander, Benue State Community Volunteer Guard, Mr. Williams Agada and the Otukpo Commander, Mr. Inalegwu Enokela who spoke on behalf of the group, expressed their gratitude to the Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom and his Deputy, Engr. Benson Abounu as well as the Exexutive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government, Rt. Hon. George Alli for the trust reposed in them. They assured the Chairman and other leaders present of their full readiness to carry out the task of protecting lives and properties of all residents of Otukpo and it’s environs.

The Otukpo Local Government Chairman has been at the forefront of unrelenting campaigns against criminality in Otukpo. The Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, Otukpo, is made up of men and women selected from all the thirteen wards of Otukpo local government.

The short ceremony had in attendance the Ad’Otukpo, HRH. Chief. Dr. Samuel Onuh; the Oche’Otukpo Odu, HRH Chief. Dr. John Eimonye, Ejila of Okete, Chief. Inalegwu Abounu, the Security Adviser to Otukpo Local Government, Hon. Igoche Ajaka Ikwue, clergymen and other members of Otukpo Executive Council.
