The Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. George Alli, has ordered perishable food stuff sellers who have extended their trade from the main market into parts of the federal road, to immediately relocate to Eupi market or face sanction.
The Chairman who stopped by the market to address the Chairman of the perishable goods sellers, Mr. Godwin Agbo, said, the activities of the traders not only constitutes nuisance to the environment, but also poses danger to the lives of both traders and commuters who uses the ever busy Otukpo federal road., Desmond Oogwu, Special Adviser, Media and Gender Affairs to the chairman said in a statement.
Alli told the Chairman that the traders must comply with the order or face government action.
According to him: “Listen, you and your colleagues have to immediately relocate to Eupi mini market. You have from now till Monday, March 1st, 2021 to comply or face our enforcement team”.
The Chairman of the tomatoes, onions and perishable goods sellers, Mr. Godwin Agbo, assured the Chairman that they will comply with the Council’s directives because they are exposing themselves to danger of motorists plying the ever busy federal road.
He also appealed that a land be set aside for perishable goods sellers. Hon. Alli assured him that it will be done but, in the interim, they should move to Eupi mini market that has been provided for them.
