The Executive Chairman, Otukpo Local Government Council, Chief George Alli this morning inaugurated the legislative council with a charge to the lawmakers to enact people’s oriented laws.
Alli who congratulated the Councillors for emerging as Representatives of their respective wards advised them to try to be honest in their relationship with their constituents.
“You should know that by your current status, so much is expected from you by members of your Communities. You will be under severe pressures from your people but do not make promises that you can not keep”, he counselled the lawmakers.
The Chairman who called on the lagislators to endeavour to pass laws that would be beneficial to the local government Council urged them to exhibit exemplary leadership.
In his words, “try and pass bye -laws that will be useful to the council. And make sure that they are laws that will add value to the local government such as keep Otukpo clean”.
Chief Alli also urged them to periscope through the existing laws with the view to utilizing them for the betterment of humanity.
The Chairman who exhibited optimism that the new lawmakers would live up to their responsibility advised them to feel free to consult him on any issue that may be of benefit to the council.
“You know, I was a legislator and therefore will be ready to share with you from my wealth of experience. I am ready to guide you where necessary”, he pledged.
Shortly after the inauguration, Alegwu Enokela from Otobi Ward who was elected Leader of the house thanked the Chairman on behalf of his colleagues and promised to practice what he described as collaborative parliamentarism with the Executive in order to take the council to a higher height.
“We pledge our loyalty and 100% loyalty to the local government and our boss. We will by the grace of God not fail him and our people who elected us”, said the Leader.
The house also elected Obiabo Daniel as Deputy Leader while Ugana Inalegwu and Ben Idah were elected majority leader and Chief Whip respectively.
In another development, the Chairman, Chief George Alli also sworn in, Oyaje Egwa from Ugboju – Icho as the Secretary of the council.
With the inauguration of the Council and subsequent swearing-in of the Secretary, all is now set for the administration of Chief George Alli to commence the second tranche of the development of the traditional capital of the Idoma nation.
