Otukpo wooden mortar factory: Thriving local industry in Idoma community

Across the length and breadth of Nigeria, there are local industries making significant contributions to the economy of the country.

One of such important industries is the mortar and pestle-making industry which has lots of factories concentrated around Otukpo community of Benue State.

These factories, which are owned and operated by enterprising young people, use modern tools to produce mortars and pestles from wooden trunks.

Their products are found in homes across the country where they are used for pounding and crushing food ingredients in the kitchen.
