Outrage as customers slam Zenith Bank over prolonged network downtime
Social media users have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express frustration over what they describe as persistent network failures by Zenith Bank, with customers complaining of delayed transactions, failed transfers, and hours-long waits for account credits.
The backlash was sparked by a post from a Benue-based critic and brand expert, @CollinsUma, who criticised the bank for recurring service disruptions despite its size and market dominance.
“Zenith Bank, you’re too big to be having the kind of network downtime you always have. Do you spend all your money on Christmas lights?” he wrote.
The post quickly gained traction, drawing thousands of views and triggering a wave of similar complaints from other customers.
Another user, @Mudaoye2013, compared Zenith Bank unfavourably with fintech platforms, questioning why traditional banks continue to struggle with network reliability.
“Even OPay and Moniepoint don’t do this kind of rubbish Zenith Bank does to their numerous customers. How can I be waiting for my account to be credited for over four hours?” the user lamented.
Several customers reported being unable to carry out basic banking transactions for most of the day.
“I have been struggling with transactions since noon,” one user wrote, while another added, “Till now, I can’t make transfers or do anything.”
Others described the situation as “terrible” and “really frustrating,” with some expressing intentions to stop using the bank altogether.
The complaints once again highlight growing customer dissatisfaction with service delivery among Nigeria’s legacy banks, especially as fintech companies continue to gain popularity by offering faster and more reliable digital services.
