Oweto-Otukpo road: IDOMA VOICE report draws Federal attention as Abba Moro raises motion in Senate
The deplorable state of the Oweto-Otukpo federal road has once again attracted national attention, following a motion raised in the Senate by the Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Comrade Abba Moro, PhD.
IDOMA VOICE Newspaper had earlier reported the sorry state of the road and the hardship faced by motorists and commuters, particularly around Oshigbudu in Agatu Local Government Area and Adoka Roundabout in Otukpo Local Government Area.
The report drew widespread concern from residents and travelers in the area.
Following the report, Senator Moro, while contributing to a motion on dilapidated federal roads across the country sponsored by Senator Jubril Echocho, lamented the poor condition of the Oweto-Otukpo road.
He described the situation as “very disturbing,” noting that commuters now spend long, stressful hours on the route due to its deplorable condition.
The senator disclosed that although the contract for the rehabilitation of the road had been awarded, the contractor was yet to be mobilized.
He therefore urged the Federal Government to expedite action to ensure the immediate rehabilitation of the road and the construction of the Adoka roundabout to ease vehicular movement.
His motion received the backing of the Minority Chief Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu, and was subsequently approved by the Senate.
