Pakistani man arrested for killing daughter over TikTok videos

A man in Pakistan has been arrested for killing his teenage daughter after she refused to stop posting what he considered inappropriate videos on TikTok, police said on Thursday.

The suspect, reportedly in his 50s, had recently moved his family back to Quetta from the United States, according to local police chief Babar Baloch.

Baloch stated that the father confessed to shooting his daughter earlier this week after she refused to dress more modestly and delete her social media videos. Authorities are treating the case as an instance of so-called “honour killing.”

Pakistan records around 1,000 honour killings annually, with victims often targeted by close relatives, including fathers, brothers, and sons, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP).

Despite the introduction of a 2016 law aimed at limiting legal loopholes, Amnesty International notes that many perpetrators still evade punishment due to a provision that allows victims’ families to pardon the killers.
