The chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the Enone axis of Benue South which consist of Ado, Okpokwu, Ogbadibo local government areas have been said to have received bribe of N1 million from a certain House of Representatives aspirant.
A source disclosed that the chairmen reportedly collected the money to aid the victory of a certain aspirant during the re-scheduled party’s September 29th, 2018 primary elections against popular candidate, Hon. Adoyi Paul Ujah.
However, party faithfuls and executives from around the constituency who were reportedly offered money by the chairmen but turned down the offer have threatened to shut down the whole process if any move is made to impose candidates during the election.
The source further stated that “We deemed what the chairmen did to be very wrong because as a Party that is still striving to gain momentum in the 2019 general elections. Imposing a candidate that is not saleable will only damage the good foundation we have been building over the years. I also believe that other SDP faithfuls like me need to know what is happening, and we generally and unanimously say no to impunity, otherwise there will be serious and disastrous consequences.” He added
Hon. Adoyi, when contacted said I heard the news too, adding that some of the people who came about with it said that they are also willing to testify.
Meanwhile, efforts made to reach out to the party chairman of SDP in Ogbadibo by name Mr. Elijah Obekpa proof abortive as Mr Elijah’s number seems not to be reachable but Mr Abba Attah, the chairman of the party in Okpokwu debunked the news saying that ” I never received bribe from anyone aspirant. The 3 aspirant for House of Representatives came to me and I told them to go ahead and work towards the election. If anyone is saying that I was given money to work for a specific aspirant then, the person is lying and only trying to play dirty politics.” He said.
More details to come to as we will continue to try every means to reach the chairmen to bring to you their own sides of the story.
