Panic as explosions hit Nigerian Army Barracks in Calabar

Explosions have rocked a military facility in Calabar, Cross River State.

The explosions hit the Nigerian Army 146 Batallion, Eburutu Cantonment around 2:30pm on Friday.

Some residents said the explosions started on Thursday, expressing fear and apprehension.

The explosions shook buildings, breaking windows and ceilings of houses at Golf View Estate.

A source in the military, however, told SaharaReporters that it was a routine exercise that started before Friday.

“They are only detonating expired explosives; it is a routine exercise. People should not panic, there was no invasion,” the source said.
