Unidentified attackers have set fire to the residence of Paschal Agbodike, a member representing Ihiala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. The incident took place around 1 am on Tuesday in Ubahi-Mbosi, situated within Ihiala Local Government Area. The assailants, who arrived at the scene, fired shots recklessly before igniting the property.
Agbodike, a former deputy speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, hails from the location where the incident occurred. The targeted property was his fully-furnished five-bedroom duplex containing four living rooms and a kitchen. Although there were no casualties, the house was completely destroyed by the attackers.
Agbodike, who confirmed the event to the press on Tuesday, stated that he received information about the incident through a phone call. He was in Abuja carrying out his legislative responsibilities at the time of the attack. He noted that the assailants had already fled the scene by the time security personnel arrived.
As of now, Agbodike has not indicated whether he suspects any individuals or whether the attack might be politically motivated. The state’s police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, verified the occurrence of the incident. He mentioned that security measures have been implemented in the area, with surveillance efforts ongoing and security operatives deployed to ensure safety.
“The vicinity has been cordoned off, and security operatives have been dispatched to the area. Continuous surveillance is being conducted by the operatives.”
