South African businessman Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed as the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), securing a second term in office.

Motsepe, 63, who first took the helm in 2021, had declared his intention to run for re-election in October 2024. His new four-year term was formally confirmed on Wednesday during CAF’s extraordinary general assembly in Cairo, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino in attendance.

A prominent mining magnate and owner of South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, Motsepe reaffirmed his commitment to advancing African football and building on the reforms introduced during his first term.

Under his leadership, CAF has implemented various initiatives aimed at strengthening the sport across the continent.

While his re-election was a foregone conclusion, CAF’s executive committee elections were also held, with Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto’o securing a seat.

Additionally, the assembly saw the election of Africa’s representatives to the FIFA Council.
