Patrick Stewart named Rangers’ new CEO

Patrick Stewart has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of Rangers and will officially assume the role on December 16.

Stewart brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as interim CEO at Manchester United during an 18-year tenure in various executive roles at Old Trafford.

Originally from Aberdeen, Stewart has also held key positions within the FA, the Premier League, and the European Club Association. Additionally, he has served as an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport, further solidifying his credentials in the football industry.

“Patrick comes with an excellent reputation and background, bringing extensive experience of operating at senior levels during his 20-plus years in football,” said Rangers interim chairman John Gilligan.

“The board continues in discussions with several excellent candidates for the role of chairperson and expect to make an announcement of an appointment in the coming weeks.”

Stewart succeeds James Bisgrove, who left for Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia during the summer.

Rangers recently reported a £17 million loss for the year ending in June.

On the field, under League Cup finalists Philippe Clement, Rangers are currently third in the Scottish Premiership, trailing Aberdeen by eight points and Celtic by 11. In the Europa League, they have earned seven points from 12.

Meanwhile, Jo Potter’s women’s team is second in the SWPL, just one point behind Glasgow City, and has advanced to the SWPL Cup semi-finals.
