PDP breaks silence on Obaseki, Shaibu clash

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing conflict between Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu.

Recent reports reveal a prolonged dispute between Obaseki and Shaibu, mainly triggered by Shaibu’s aspiration to succeed Obaseki in 2024 without the latter’s endorsement.

Shaibu sought legal intervention at the Federal High Court in Abuja to prevent his potential impeachment by Obaseki. However, he withdrew the case following stakeholder intervention.

Subsequently, Shaibu faced further challenges, including the disbandment of his media team and relocation of his office outside the Government House in Benin, the state capital.

In an official statement, the PDP’s National Vice Chairman (South), Chief Dan Orbih, urged both leaders to halt actions detrimental to the party’s image in the state.

Orbih, a former Edo PDP chairman, emphasized the need for confidentiality of official state communications, now widely circulated on social media. He appealed for a resolution of their differences to uphold good governance and the state’s progress, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming gubernatorial elections in 2023.

Orbih concluded by highlighting the PDP’s longstanding strong brand in Edo State, urging both parties to settle their disputes amicably for the benefit of the party and the state.
