Benue State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemns the beating meted on one of the two Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Hon. Austin Agada, by an angry mob yesterday.

A video clip circulating on social media show Hon. Agada at the receiving end of the wrath of aggrieved members of his party before being forced to run for his life aided by security men.

The incident is said to have happened at the victim’s council ward in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of the state when he went to participate in the primaries of his party to nominate its governorship candidate for the 2023 elections.

In the video Hon. Agada is seen engaging some persons in an exchange before the engagement got heated and turned violent wherefore the persons descended on him and beat him up forcing him to flee the scene.

It is said that the persons who beat up Agada, as gathered from the video, were angered by his role in a plot to fake the primaries in the council ward and return a predetermined result to Makurdi.

PDP condemns resort to violence as an alternative to settling political differences, particularly at a time when Benue under the party’s governance has expunged political thuggery from the polity.

We urges APC to follow in our footsteps by conducting its internal processes transparently and in line with provisions of law to guard against a repeat of the ugly incident as occured against its factional chairman, Agada.

We also call on security agencies to be vigilant and nip in the bud all possible incidents of violence before they occur and where necessary arrest and prosecute offenders to deter resorting to violence as a means to settling political differences.
