The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured all 260 ward councillorship seats across the 17 Local Government Areas in Enugu State during the council elections held on Saturday.
Prof. Christian Ngwu, Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), announced the results on Monday in Enugu, explaining that the commission had delayed the release of the councillorship results to allow for thorough scrutiny.
ENSIEC had earlier declared PDP the winner of all 17 chairmanship positions in the state on Sunday.
Ngwu, who also served as the returning officer for the polls, stated that ENSIEC meticulously collated and analyzed the results to ensure full compliance with electoral laws.
“The PDP won all 260 ward councillorship positions across the state’s political wards,” Ngwu confirmed. He added that the election was “peaceful, fair, free, and credible.”
He noted that the electoral body provided a level playing field for all 17 political parties that participated in the election.
Full details of the councillorship results will be made public in due course, and Certificates of Return will be issued to the winners of the chairmanship and councillorship positions soon, Ngwu added.
He also clarified that there were no significant reports of violence or disruptions during the election.
