The commandant of the Peace Corps in Osun State, Mr Ayinde Paul Kayode was allegedly harassed along Ede-Ife road by a Police officer on Thursday, Tribune Online reliably gathered.
Sources informed our correspondent that a Police officer, identified as Sergeant Oluwole Oke with service number 359257 allegedly attacked the Peace Corps commandant along Ede-Ife road, Agbungbu village, in Osun State around 6.00 pm.
One of the sources, who pleaded anonymity informed our correspondent that the Peace Corps boss pleaded with the Police officer to release the seized uniform of his official, who accompanied him, but his pleas were not considered.
In the ensuing melee, the Police officer was said to have rough handled Ayinde as his shirt’s buttons were allegedly stripped and his android phone damaged.
According to him, Oke had argued that it was illegal for the peace corps official to have put on the uniform when their organisation had not been legalised. But, the commandant explained that the bill regarding their legality was still awaiting government’s approval, stressing that such development did not prevent his men from wearing uniforms.
He added that Oke was said to have been miffed by the commandant’s explanation and allegedly called him a stupid man as the encounter almost degenerated into a fight when one of the men in the company of Ayinde attempted to record the incident.
However, when contacted, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye said he was not aware of the incident, maintaining that such matter should be reported at the appropriate quarters.
Adeoye, who spoke during a telephone chat with our correspondent said “there is no special thing about anybody, if anybody has complain, that person should go to the right place to lodge complain. There is a police division and if anybody feels assaulted, the person should go to the nearest police station and report the matter”.
