Peter Obi donates N10m to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital following over payment revelation
Former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated N10 million to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Ihiala.
Obi had initially pledged N20 million to the institution, along with 15 others, but mistakenly overpaid them by N2.5 million while redeeming the pledge. The hospital management brought this incident to his attention, which prompted the former governor to make an additional donation of N10 million to commend their transparency.
During a visit to the hospital over the weekend, Obi presented the check for the additional N10 million to the management, reaffirming his commitment to supporting health and educational institutions across the state.
He stated, “Today, in furtherance of my unwavering commitment to critical and measurable areas of development—health, education, and lifting people out of poverty—I visited Our Lady of Lourdes College of Nursing Sciences in Ihiala. During my visit, I took stock of their progress and was pleased to witness the positive outcomes of our ongoing support. Earlier this year, I donated N20 million to aid their efforts, and in recognition of their commendable work, I made an additional donation of N10 million today.”
Earlier, the CEO of the hospital, Rev. Fr. Onuorah Ugochukwu, revealed that Obi had inadvertently overpaid the hospital’s school of nursing by N2.5 million. He explained, “He (Obi) had pledged N20 million to 16 medical institutions, paying in installments, but our hospital received N2.5 million extra. We initially thought it was an isolated mistake until other institutions reported the same. When I contacted him about the error, he appreciated the integrity shown, and today he is here again.”
The former presidential hopeful took this opportunity to emphasize the importance of transparency, stating that all the institutions that reported cases of overpayment will receive an additional N10 million each.
