Peter Obi donates N20 million to Nursing Colleges in Imo, Anambra

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has donated N20 million to two Colleges of Nursing Sciences in Imo and Anambra states.

The beneficiaries are Holy Rosary College of Nursing, Ogbe, in Ahiara Catholic Diocese, Mbaise, and the College of Nursing Sciences, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala.

During his visit on Friday, Obi presented a N10 million cheque to each institution. At Holy Rosary College of Nursing, he handed the donation to Most Rev. Simeon Nwobi, Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, at the college’s construction site. At Our Lady of Lourdes, Ihiala, he presented the cheque to SUG President, Miss Anigbo Chisom Mary, in the presence of enthusiastic students.

Obi emphasized the critical role of healthcare and education in national development. Commending the Catholic Diocese of Ahiara for initiating the nursing college project, he described it as a vital investment in Nigeria’s future. “This donation is not a favour but a recognition of your efforts in nation-building,” he stated.

The former Anambra governor also stressed the need for quality education and prompt payment of teachers’ salaries. He advocated for free and accessible education at primary and secondary levels and pledged continued support for the colleges to ensure they become centres of excellence in healthcare training.

In response, Bishop Nwobi expressed gratitude, commending Obi’s unwavering commitment to a better Nigeria. “You have done so much for this country, and we continue to pray for God’s will in your life,” he said, confirming that the college would officially open next year and inviting Obi to its launch.

Additionally, Very Rev. Fr. Okoro revealed that construction began in late 2021 and that the institution would offer courses in nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, cardiology, and laboratory sciences.

At Our Lady of Lourdes, Ihiala, SUG President Miss Anigbo Chisom Mary thanked Obi for his support, calling him a role model. “You have always shown us care and compassion. We will not let you down,” she assured.
