The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, have taken a significant step in their legal challenge against President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 Nigerian election. They have submitted a comprehensive set of arguments to the Supreme Court, seeking to contest the ruling of the Court of Appeal delivered on 6th September 2023.
This crucial development was communicated via a post on the X platform by Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent figure within the party and a well-known actor. In his message, he expressed gratitude and placed trust in divine intervention to guide their legal endeavor. He praised the entire Presidential Petition Legal Team of @PeterObi, acknowledging their efforts and wishing them blessings.
The filing at the Supreme Court is an appeal against the Court of Appeal’s judgment, and it stems from the petition originally filed by Peter Obi and the Labour Party against Tinubu’s election victory. The appeal is founded on a notice of appeal submitted on 19th September 2023, containing a substantial 51 grounds of appeal.
The key respondents in this case include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the meantime, Obi has made it clear that he is not open to the idea of participating in a unity government with President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
During an interview with Arise News on Monday, Obi stated that he is currently challenging the legitimacy of Tinubu’s ascension to office, making collaboration unlikely at this juncture.
